RIP Johan Cruyff


As it is known one of the greatest football players in the World and obviously the biggest legend of Dutch football Johan Cruyff has passed away in the age of 68 on the 24th of March 2016.Johan Cruyff had a stellar career first with Ajax where he played from 1964 to 1973 and with Barcelona where he spent five years (1973-1978).Besides that he was on the Dutch squad in the 1974 FIFA World Cup in West Germany and made it to the Final agiast the host of the tournament,it was Beckenbauer who had the last laugh in which after an extra time West Germany won its 2nd World Cup and left the Dutch and Cruyff empty handed.Besides that he never won the World Cup or the European Championships (he retired from the Dutch national team in 1977) he won a large number of trophies on the club level with Ajax and Barcelona.Later in the mid 1980s when he finished with his playing career he replicated those successes as a coach of both clubs by winning championships and trophies.Also Cruyff was one of the famous European players who brought soccer to  US audiences when in 1978 he signed with the Los Angeles Aztecs and later with the Washington Diplomats.Cruyff influenced a generation of coaches and players which includes Frank Riijkard,Arsene Wenger,Michael Laudrup and most notably Pep Guardiola.Based on his coaching philosophy both his former clubs Ajax and Barcelona have developed one of the best youth academies which currently exist in football.In 1999 Cruyff was named the European Player of the Century and came second behind Pele in the World Player of the Century poll which was conducted by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics.Johan Cruyff was the best football player which the Netherlands and Europe were able to produce,he left the football world with a huge influence and legacy at both club and international level especially in Spain where he worked for long time,he layed the foundations of successes of Ajax,Barcelona and the Spanish national team which dominated the period between 2008 and 2012.Cruyff shaped modern football and was one of the most important people in the history of the sport and his presence will be missed but his influence and legacy will be felt in the decades to come.
