Hamburg’s Worst Autumn Ever

It couldn’t have been worse for Hamburg in the current season, they have collected only 4 points from 12 matches and still they have to win their first match in the season, how bad it is for Hamburg is that they managed 4 draws and 8 defeats and they are dead last in the Bundesliga table,it is a nightmare season for the Dinos. If the situation for the Dinos doesn’t change quickly they will face relegation for the first time in their history and the record of 53 years in the Bundesliga will be broken. This isn’t the first time Hamburg is facing relegation but it is sounding the alarm bells much louder, the last couple of seasons for the Dinos have been cruel and at least twice they have managed to avoid relegation in the 2.Bundesliga which would be an embarassing event for the club which in the late 1970s and early 1980s had its golden era where the dominated German football and made into the 1980 UEFA European Champions Cup final against Nottingham Forest which they lost by a single goal.Starting in the 2013-14 season Hamburg has went from competing places for the UEFA Europe League to barely surviving relegation,in the relegation/promotion play-offs in 2014 against Greuther Furth they managed two draws (1-1,0-0) which were enough to deny the Shamrocks a return to the Bundesliga. The following season was much worse, from February to April of the 2014-15 season the Dinos managed only to collect two points and a 7 defeats in 9 matches which included an 8-0 trouncing by Bayern Munich and a 4-0 defeat against Bayer Leverkusen at the beginning of April, but a late rally in the last five matches of the season which included a 2-0 victory in the last match of the season against Schalke which meant a automatic relegation for Freiburg and Paderborn, gave the Dinos another second chance to stay in the Bundesliga through the playoffs against Karlsruhe which after a dramatic extra-time in the return leg confirmed their Bundesliga status for yet another season.Last season the situation was much calmer for the Dinos since they achieved a solid 10th place in the Bundesliga table and it was thought the Dinos have achieved a necessary stability which will give them a path to higher places on the Bundesliga and possibly a return to European competitions, however everybody got it wrong and the nightmare for the Dinos has returned. On paper Hamburg’s roster isn’t bad and it is pretty solid with former Darmstadt goalkeeper Christian Mathenia and Rene Adler in the goalkeeping spots with Adler having the advantage since he is the vice-captain,in defense there are Cleber,Spahic and Djourou with Djourou which is the club captain being the key player in defense since Cleber looked like a lost sheep last season which meant a lot of defensive problems which again were exposed in the current Bundesliga season, the midfield is also pretty good-but only on paper the addition of Alen Halilovic from Barcelona could have helped the midfield more, also there are Lewis Holtby and Aaron Hunt however it seems their partnership in the midfield isn’t materialized and there is also the addition from Stuttgart which is Filip Kostic which the Dinos bought him for 14 million Euros making him the most expensive signing the club ever made,so far Kostic hasn’t been a return of investment for the Dinos. The last part is the attack which is pretty loaded with names of Pierre-Michel Lasogga which scored 12 goals last season,Michael Gregoritsch which scored only 7 goals and the “Flying Hawaiian” Bobby Wood which was brought from Union Berlin where last season he scored 17 goals which was enough that Bundesliga clubs began to pay attention to him and signed a four-year deal with the Dinos, for now Wood has scored only 2 goals in the Bundesliga and the scoring goals was one of Hamburg’s biggest problems which continue in the current season since they scored only 8 goals and conceded 27 which spells huge problems for the Dinos, also the club suffers from constant coaching changes and problems in club management which prevented the club itself to rise in much hire places of the Bundesliga table.Since 2013 the club went through 7 coaching changes which meant a lot of unstability on the bench because of poor results, the latest coach hired which is former Hoffenheim coach Markus Gisdol was given a chance till the end of the season to lead the club, however if the Dinos don’t start winning soon,Gisdol will be booted out of the bench.Till the winter pause there are four more matchdays and the Dinos should start winning matches and begin to improve their position on the table or the nightmare season will continue and result in their first ever relegation from the Bundesliga in 54 years.
