Is this Roma’s season to win the Serie A title?

Unlike the previous Serie A season where Juventus had an easy walk to the Serie A title, this season is way more different and the reason is that the bianconeri have a very serious challenger in Roma.Currently the giallorossi are just a point behind the bianconeri and pose a very serious challenge to Juventus for a long time and the race is heating up regardless that Juventus has a game in hand and can extend its lead to four points, but the race its real between the two clubs and the title could be decided in the final matches of the season. It has passed 16 years since Roma has won its 3rd Serie A title and in the following years the club was always at the top of Italian football but it had too many misses on winning the Serie A title, but thanks to new owner Jim Pallotta the giallorossi have become financially healthy which meant also to buy better players for the squad and give a shot at a title run, also the club plans to abandon the legendary Stadio Olimpico for a own Stadio della Roma where they will move in two years. But most notably this season Roma can finally believe in a shot to stop the domination of Juventus, but it takes a much bigger significance,in 2001 when the giallorossi were champions the last time,it also marked that they were the last Serie A champions outside the big three of Inter,Milan and Juventus which dominated the Serie A ever since, while leaving the rest to fight for other places, the giallorossi came to the closest three times to end the dominance of the big three-in 2006,2007 and 2008.In 2006 after the Calciopoli scandal the giallorossi where reclassified as 2nd,but in the following seasons in 2007 and 2008 they came as runners-up to Inter and their rivalry with the nerazzurri defined Italian football in those years. While Inter was Serie A champion, the giallorossi took in front of them two Coppa Italia titles and a Supercoppa Italiana title in 2007.That was the last of the titles for the giallorossi under Luciano. After a decline in the post-Spalletti years where the giallorossi have hired four coaches which included the names of Vincenzo Montella,Claudio Ranieri which was also a former player of the giallorossi,Luis Enrique before he took over Barcelona and most notably Zdenek Zeman which is a very known name among coaches in Italy and which coached the giallorossi between 1997 and 1999 came Rudi Garcia who relaunched to the top of the Serie A.In Garcia’s first season on the bench of the giallorossi in the 2013-14 season, the club made its best ever start in history when in ten matches of the season achieved ten victories however a late bad form in the season meant another 2nd place behind Juventus which happend also in the following 2014-15 season, while last season Garcia was fired after a bad start and a defeat in the Coppa Italia by the Serie B side Spezia  which happened in December 2015.With the return of Spalletti on the bench the giallorossi the rest of the season played well and in the last five matches of the last season they collected a maximum of 15 points. This season the giallorossi didn’t had a good start, however after a run which lasted from matchday 7 to matchday 12 where they 16 out of 18 points they increasingly looked liked to challenge the bianconeri for the Serie A title and after Juve’s slump last weekend against Fiorentina where they were defeated 2-1,allowed the giallorossi to come within a point of the leading bianconeri which promises a to be two-way race to the final matches of the season.Besides the return of Spalletti which changed the fortunes of the giallorossi it is the club roster which has Roma has that it allows them to compete with the bianconeri. The current roster of Roma is one of the strongest in the Serie A currently starting with Szeczsney who is on loan from Arsenal at the goal, the defence is commanded by Vermaelen, but it is the midfield which carries the giallorossi with the likes of De Rossi,Florenzi,Strootman,Perotti and Nainggolan and the attack with the names of Salah,Džeko who is currently third in the topscorer standings of the current Serie A season with 13 goals,El-Shaarawy and the legendary Francesco Totti probably playing his final season, the giallorossi couldn’t had a better roster which will try to break the dominance of Juventus and win its long awaited 4th Serie A title and its first in 16 years of waiting.Besides the Serie A there is the Coppa Italia in play for the giallorossi where tomorrow evening they meet Sampdoria for a place in the quarterfinal,if they make to the quarterfinals, their route to a possible final will be easier since they will mee the winner of the match between last season’s sensation Sassuolo and the Serie B side Cesena. However for the giallorossi the biggest catch is the Serie A title and another motivation will be is that is possibly the last season for Totti, the question is can they after all these years win the Serie A title which has been missing since 2001 or it will be another disappointing miss?
